Murmansk (Мурманск) is a major port city in northwestern Russia, located on the Kola Bay near the Barents Sea, it is also the largest city north of the Arctic Circle.[1]

On 7 June 1941, as part of Operation Silver Fox, Germany tried to capture the Soviet port of Murmansk by attacking through Finland and Norway to open a northern front. Despite several major operations, the attack failed, and Murmansk stayed under Soviet control throughout World War II.[2]
