Mount Hymettos is a mountain range east of Athens in the Heights of Thorikos region of Attika, Greece.
In classical antiquity, the mountain was known for its marble and honey, the only source of sugar in Greece. The mountain also housed a statue dedicated to the god Zeus in his aspect as Zeus Ombrios, the bringer of rain.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the mountain and the statue were visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
