Michael Maier (1568 – 1622) was a German physician and counsellor to Emperor Rudolf II of the Holy Roman Empire.
Michael was known for his book Atalanta Fugiens that consists of 50 discourses with illustrations, each of which is accompanied by an epigrammatic verse, prose and a musical fugue.[1]
During the Golden Age of Piracy, one of the illustrations ended up in the possession of the English landowner Peter Beckford in the West Indies.[1]
