Merec was a sheep herder who lived in Sciropescire, Mercia in the late 9th century.

Once, Merec polished his family brooch up as a gift for his niece, but put it down and it was swallowed by one of his sheep. Eivor Varinsdottir helped him to recover it without harming any of his flock..
