Melanippos was a figure in Greek mythology.
Featured in Aischylos's play Seven Against Thebes, Melanippos was a Boeotian defender of Thebes when Argive army marched there to reclaim the city for Polynikes. According to the story, Tydeus, one of the seven leaders of the Argive army, ate Melanippos' brain.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War a bandit camp on the eastern shore of Lake Kopais was named after Melanippos.[2]
