The Loire is the longest river in France, rising in the center of the country before flowing north to Orléans, then west through Tours until it reaches the Bay of Biscay.

History[edit | edit source]

By 29 April 1429, the "Bastard of Orléans" Jean de Dunois ordered ships to sail on the Loire for more supplies. However, the wind blew strongly in the opposite direction. While near the Loire, de Dunois was joined by both Jeanne d'Arc and her "shadow" Gabriel Laxart while he explained his ships had yet to arrive to start their battle. Miraculously, Jeanne held her arms out and seemingly changed the winds to blow in their favor. Within the day, de Dunois' ships sailed and arrived with the French army's supplies.[1]
