Learnings: The World Comes to Jorvik

A carnelian bead from India / c. Viking Age

Goods were brought all the way from Eastern Asia to Jorvik's markets. The settlers could get their hands on exotic products like spices (cinnamon, pepper), silk, or, as shown here, a carnelian bead all the way from India! The Scandinavians liked to show off how wealthy they were; wearing a silk tunic or a headdress was a great way to let the world know they were rich.
