Megalithic monuments, including stone circles, can be found throughout the world. In England, there are a number of standing stones arranged in a circle. Sometimes the megaliths stand alone, sometimes in pairs and topped with a stone roof, or lid.

Avebury is home to one of the biggest stone circles in the world. It has a diameter of 331.6 meters and was built during the 4th millennium BCE. The Avebury monument features a large henge (a raised ring of earth), a big outer stone circle and two smaller inner circles at its center.
