Learnings: The Great Hall

The great hall may have been its own building, like the one pictured here, or a large central room in the chief's longhouse.

The hall was at the heart of the community; deep bonds were created, transformed, and sometimes broken under its roof.

The Chieftain's House seen in this picture was reconstructed after archaeologists found remains from a 6th-10th century longhouse. It is 83 metres long and 9.5 metres wide, making it the longest longhouse ever found.
