Lake Tanganyika is the longest freshwater lake in the world and the second-deepest after Lake Baikal, stretching across the heart of Africa. It forms a natural boundary between four countries; Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, and Zambia.[1] In 1871, the presumed-dead Christian missionary and physician David Livingstone was found by Henry Morton Stanley in the Tanzanian village of Ujiji that bordered the lake.[2][3]
