Great Old One's Caress

The Great Old One's Caress was a set of brass knuckles made and used during the 19th century.
Consisting of a sinuous length of metal with small nubs along its outside, resembling a tentacle, these brass knuckles were made by the British Assassins Evie and Jacob Frye during their stay in London.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
These knuckles are one of the many references scattered throughout Assassin's Creed: Syndicate to the Cthulhu mythos created by the horror author H. P. Lovecraft. Specifically, the "Great Old One" refers to any member of Lovecraft's pantheon of the "Great Old Ones", space-faring deities who once ruled Earth before falling into a near-death slumber. The knuckles are also shaped like a tentacle, a physical feature common among many of Lovecraft's characters. Lastly, the knuckles's description reads that they were "hupadgh n'gha ng n'ghft", which loosely translates from Aklo, a constructed language associated with mythicism and magic, to "born of death and darkness".
