Grape is a fruit best known as the source of wine.

History[edit | edit source]

In the Greek mythology, grapes were dedicated to the god Dionysos. In the 5th century BCE, grapes were especially plentiful on the island of Naxos, which was famous enough for them to use the image of grapes on their banner and their coinage.[1]

During the Renaissance, the former Mentor of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, retired to spend the rest of his life in a villa, tending to his grapes with his wife Sofia Sartor and their children, Marcello and Flavia.[2]

In the 18th century, Italian diplomat Ruggiero Ferraro considered Sangiovese to be the finest grape in the world.[3]
