Erlend
Erlend was a Norse skald who lived in Norway during the 9th century.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Erlend was born as the seventh son of a seventh son in his family and was expected to bring honor to his family. However, he did not have the skills to become a proper Viking warrior like his uncles and brother, and instead gravitated towards poetry. Unable to live up to his family and felt that was nothing left for him, Erlend wandered around and eventually made camp south of Stavanger in Rygjafylke trying to find a way at honor.[1]
In the 870s, Erlend was found by the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan during her time in the region. Erlend informed her of his predicament and requested her aid in helping him gain honor by bringing a beast for him to slay.[1]
