This article is about the Italian painter. For other uses, see Domenico.

Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449 – 11 January 1494) was an Italian Renaissance painter.

Running a large workshop in Florence, Ghirlandaio briefly took the position of Michelangelo's teacher.[1] In 1483, Pope Sixtus IV commissioned Domenico, Pietro Perugino, Sandro Botticelli, and several other painters to create a series of frescos on the walls of the Sistine Chapel.[2] Michelangelo praised the frescoes, hoping to see them one day.[1] Two years later, Ghirlandaio was commissioned to paint frescoes of the life of Saint Francis in the Sassetti Chapel at the Basilica di Santa Trinita.[3]
