Database: Tsar Nicholas II of Russia

Nikolai Alexandrovich Romanov (1868-1918) was the last Emperor of Russia, Grand Duke of Finland, and titular King of Poland. Like other Russian Emperors, he is commonly known by the monarchical title Tsar. His rule was foreshadowing the fall of Imperial Russia, since he led his nation to losing the entire Baltic fleet against the Japanese in 1905. His political maneuvers to end the competition with England led to the Russian involvement in World War I and caused the death of many of his people. After the October Revolution, Alexander abdicated and was imprisoned by the Bolsheviks, before being executed alongside his family. The Russian Orthodox Church canonized him and his family at the end of the 20th century.
