The red fox, like other foxes, has incredible hearing. They can pinpoint the movements of small creatures under several feet of snow. When the fox is confident of its prey's location, it will leap straight up into the air and then plunge headfirst down into the snow, its mouth open and ready to snap. This strategy is called "mousing."
