Secret Seeker

Mary Read learned her trade in the British Royal Navy, posing for years as a man while she worked as a sailor. It was during her service that she met her first husband. He was killed, however, shortly after they married, and seeing no future for herself in Europe, Mary crossed the Atlantic to the West Indies. She once again began dressing and living as a man, and presented herself as James Kidd, son of the famous, though dubious, pirate, William Kidd.

Shortly after the founding of the Republic of Nassau, Read met the Assassin, Ah Tabai. Convinced of the righteousness of their creed, Mary was quick in becoming one of them.

Upon meeting and getting to know Edward Kenway, Mary Read set to work recruiting him into the Caribbean Brotherhood. She aided in his search for The Observatory, describing it as a sort of "Fountain of Youth," and convincing him of the danger it posed in the hands of the Templars.

Mary Read is nimble and elusive, a fierce swordswoman, and a loyal member of the Assassins.
