Database: Ipatiev House

This is the place where the Romanovs were probably killed by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution. After being arrested in the Alexander Palace, the Tsar and his family were brought to this house, belonging to military engineer Nikolai Nikolayevich Ipatiev. The house had been commandeered by the Soviets, who ordered its evacuation and changed its function, making it serve as what was called 'the house of special purpose.' The Tsar's family remained there with their entourage for more than two months, but, in July 1918, orders were issued to kill them all.
