Charles had many enemies, not least of which was a rebellion of former king's soldiers and freedom fighters. Angered by their ineffectual monarch and his loyalists, the motley group found an unlikely leader in Pierre. Known to mark even the smallest victory with indulgent celebration, if they didn't win their freedom they would drown in wine.
