These three disenfranchised Frankish nobles lost their lands to Norse invaders and vowed melodramatic revenge upon their collective honor. They might have succeeded too, had their competence extended beyond reciting awkward verse. Ironically, their crudely drawn shield symbols may have foreshadowed the advent of heraldry hundreds of years early.
