Database: Female Soldiers

Women served in the armies of the Revolution, after overcoming a ban. The patriotic fever of 1792 served their cause and they pushed the Legislature to declare that no law would forbid women the right to bear arms. One of them said, "You cannot give the defense of the motherland to anyone better than mothers, wives and sisters burning with the desire to defend what they care about most." After that, women could join the ranks of the armed revolution without having to hide their gender.
