Database: Edward Thatch (Rebellion)
Scourge of the Seas
Edward Thatch, once a privateer in service to the British Crown during the War of the Spanish Succession, would go on to become possibly the most terrifying presence in the Caribbean. He turned pirate soon after the end of the War, serving as Benjamin Hornigold's quartermaster. He would quickly rise to his own captaincy, at which time he began to cultivate a fearsome appearance, which would earn him the moniker "Blackbeard." His ship, Queen Anne's Revenge became one of the greatest predators of the Spanish Main.
The persona of "Blackbeard" was more theater than reality, a façade to aid in the bloodless capture of terrified merchant vessels. Thatch was a staunch and loyal friend who joined Hornigold and Kenway in championing the independence of Nassau. He fought as hard as anyone to preserve it, and had great disdain for the English bureaucracy.
