Councillor's House

The Councillor's House was the home of Hjorr Halfsson and his wife Ljufvina Bjarmarsdottir, the former King and Queen of Avaldsnes, in Jorvik, Eurviscire after Hjorr became a councillor to King Ricsige of Northumbria.
History[edit | edit source]
Around 874, Hjorr Halfsson and Ljufvina Bjarmarsdottir made a new home in Jorvik after declining King Harald Fairhair's offer of unity in Norway. There, Hjorr became a member of King Ricsige of Northumbria's council while Ljufvina assisted in keeping the peace. One day, they received a letter from a Poor Fellow-Soldier of Christ but did not open it. Ljufvina was holding the letter when she was attacked at her home by two Red Hand bandits. She successfully defended herself, slew the bandits, and left to take shelter at a nearby tower, where she was then found by her friend Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan.[1]
After the Order of the Ancients' influence was extinguished,[2] both Hjorr and Ljufvina received a surprise from their son, Geirmund Hel-hide, who had left them in Avaldsnes a few years earlier. They immediately reconciled and welcomed him back into their family.[3] Before Geirmund bid them farewell to join Guthrum, his parents gifted him a horse for his travels.[4]
