Claudius (Latin: Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus; 10 BCE – 54 CE) was Roman emperor from 41 CE to his death. He was succeeded by his adopted son Nero.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Reign[edit | edit source]
Named emperor following the assassination of Caligula, Claudius constructed much infrastructure across the empire, completing his predecessor's acqueduct and calling it Aqua Claudia.[1] In 43, he and his armies invaded the British continent and fought with local tribespeople.[2]
When he died in 54,[3] his death was attributed to poisoning by death cap mushrooms.[4]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
His successors as Emperor continued his work in subjugating the local populace of Brittonic and Pict barbarians until they were conquered in 87 and the land named Britannia.[2]
In 2012, Claudius was included in a mnemonic set in Abstergo Industries' Project Legacy.[4]
