Christopher Marlowe (1564 – 1593), also known as Kit Marlowe, was an English poet, playwright, and translator of the Elizabethan era.

Marlowe wrote, among others, The Famous Tragedy of the Rich Jew of Malta. The play featured a Jewish villain, which eventually resulted in its revival following the execution of Roderigo Lopez, the Jewish chief physician of Queen Elizabeth I, who was hanged, drawn, and quartered in 1594 for attempting to poison the Queen.[1]
