Choanji Yakushido

Choanji Yakushido was a Buddhist temple west of Ryumongadake Vista in Yamato, Japan.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki member and samurai Yasuke visited the temple after coming across two farmers, who were taught to fight by Hozoin In'ei against the bandits. Upon his arrival, Yasuke came across more dead bandits and saw In'ei fixing the damage at the temple. When Yasuke introduced himself and asked to spar against the master of the kanabō, In'ei agreed while he posed a dilemma to Yasuke about the choice of honor versus duty.[1]

Readying their kanabōs, both warriors fought but Yasuke ultimately bested the master. In'ei thanked him while divulging how he disobeyed his daimyō's orders to safeguard the people and was ready to face the consequences. Fortunately, Yasuke informed him that he dealt with the bandits' leader which led In'ei to be excused of any wrongdoing. Before he left, Yasuke received the kanabō Phantom Fist from In'ei as a gift.[1]
