Chalk

Chalk is a soft white carbonate rock originally formed under the sea by the compression of plankton. Many locations are known to have chalk deposits, such as the White Desert in Egypt[1] and the White Cliffs of Dover[2] and Seven Sisters[3] in England.
Chalk was widely used in the making of hill figures, large images carved into hills and filled with some new material, usually chalk. Some examples of these are the figures of Aeld Wyrm,[4] Uffington White Horse[5] and the Long Man of Wilmington[6].
During the Italian Renaissance, the Assassins mixed chalk with verdigris and sandarach to create blinding powder.[7]
