Catherine of Braganza (25 November 1638 – 31 December 1705) was queen consort of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1662 to 1685 as the wife of King Charles II.
During her tenure, her husband commissioned the creation of Upper St. James' Park in Westminster as one of the Royal Parks. The park was later renamed Green Park, which was said to be due to a story surrounding Catherine and Charles. According to the story, Catherine discovered that her husband had picked flowers from the park to give to another woman. In a fit of jealousy, Catherine ordered all the flower beds to be removed, turning the park green entirely.[1]
