The Calves' Head Club was a 17th-century English secret society purportedly established to ridicule the memory of the late King Charles I,[1] who had been beheaded in 1647 following his defeat in the English Civil War.[2] In the mid-to-late 1800s, a cult inspired by the Head Club carried out a series of occult rituals in London and kidnapped a detective that attempted to investigate them.[3]
