The Broad Axe

The Broad Axe was a type of battleaxe distinct for its broad and crescent-shaped blade. Simple yet functional, it was good for both chopping wood as well as in combat, and had been used for both by the 5th century BCE.

During the Peloponnesian War, this kind of axe was used by the Fanatics among the Followers of Ares. The Spartan misthios Kassandra also commonly found this weapon in the inventories of blacksmiths and looted it from bodies and chests during her travels throughout Greece.[1]
