I know that recently, a user (I think it was Crook) pointed out that if there is only a single source for an article, we only list that source without using citations. For example: Gaspar Martínez from Assassin's Creed II: Discovery. In such cases, the References section functions exactly like an Appearances section.

Does this mean that all pages who have only one source should now list that source in the new Appearances section while providing citations in the References section despite only having one source?

I think that having both Appearances and Sources would work, as in the future more sources may be added, like behind the scenes books about the franchise.

A behind the scenes book could give more details about a topic that none of the other media does. So, both should be fine, to me. I'm not an Administrator on here, so it's not up to me, I just thought that I'd give my opinion.

Hm, that doesn't answer the question I posed that you were quoting though :-/, which concerns the References section when an article only has one source.
