I think running backwards, rather than jump off, is just for the coolness factor. Though the fact that that takes precedence over logic isn't a very good sign (reminds me of that stupid mission in Unity where Arno sets Les Halles aux Blés on fire, forgetting there are explosives inside). 

Still, I think we should reserve judgment - Jacob is explicitly marketed as not very Assassin-like, and it's not like we haven't had giant setpieces before. Saying it "looks like an entirely different franchise" seems very hasty to me, especially since this is just four minutes of a game that is likely to be at least ten hours long, if it resembles previous AC games length-wise.
