Be wary of rumors my friends. I'm not saying they're wrong, but 4chan has been, scratch that, is known for pulling crazy shit. It would only take a small group of "friends," or one dedicated individual, with a single piece of info to knit a wool scarf that could be pulled over everyone's eyes.

It's been known since 2013 that the director of Black Flag wanted to do Egypt.

I think it's more the fact that Kotaku, which previously correctly leaked Unity and Syndicate, claims to have sources corroborating the story than that a sole random 4chan user claimed. Also I think most people use the term 'Ancient Egypt' rather liberally.

The developers apparently "want the least amount of historical documentation to get freedom". Which, to me, suggests that the game will be set much further back than 700 BC.

Also can someone explain what constitutes "Ancient Egypt". I've looked it up and, as far as I can tell, the Ancient Egypt period is generally regarded as having started c. 3100 BC. Which was when the two kingdoms of Upper and Lower Egypt were united under a single pharaoh. The period prior to this one is regarded as Prehistoric Egypt. The Ancient Egypt period came to an end in 332 BC, when it was conquered by Alexander the Great.
