Considering that we have the 2 comic series and the movie coming up, I'm pretty sure the modern day story for 2016 would be covered. Besides, I prefer Ubisoft to skip a year to polish the game and improve the storyline than getting another buggy AC game with a crappy story this 2016.

Agreed. The last thing I want is for Ubisoft to rush out another game. This franchise needs to win back some of its credibility. A solid entry after a break seems like a good way to do that. And as misphantom pointed out, it's not like we'll be without AC; both the comics and movie should progress the storyline, and those media are more likely to do something with the modern day than the games themselves imo.
