In simple words, the Ascendance Event is when a couple of specific bloodlines (or more) converge through time. For example, have you heard the sentence "I'm going to find you in the afterlife"? That's what happens with these people, their ancestors have met before and their ancestor's ancestors met before and on and on. But... what makes this connection possible? The answer: A piece of Eden, the trident in this case.

The Sub-DNA is very fantastic if you ask me. It contains the collective memories of humankind on a very unconscious level (it's like the original DNA of humanity everybody shares, a thing humans have in common), think of it as a big hard disk where you extract information unconsciously. If you can access these "memories" in the animus, maybe you could finally know the secrets of the immunity some people have against pieces of Eden.
