It doesn't make sense to me at all and I don't know how they are going to explain it, hopefully they pull it off well. I good way to implement this in which you kinda mentioned would be that you can only access it in shadows or at night.

I hope we see some backflashes of Giovanni Borgia or Jesus with the Shroud.
