I think I can attribute my loss of interest in AC to four reasons: the failure of Unity; the failure of Syndicate to really stand out from Unity; brand saturation/lack of innovation; and things done right in other media that really contrast with AC in how good they are compared to AC.
While I understand that Unity was a poor effort, I think that it's the wrong attitude to be put off by mistakes. Mistakes are not intentional; lack of innovation on the other hand... That's why I'm only just starting to get sick of it because Syndicate is the only game that seems to have nothing going for it.
