The Battleground of Plataia was the site of the Battle of Plataia which occurred in 479 BCE between the Greek poleis and the Achaemenid Empire as the final land battle of the Greco-Persian Wars. The Greeks scored a tremendous victory against the Persians, ensuring that their invasion of Greece had definitively failed.[1]
Decades later during the Peloponnesian War, the surrounding area still lay in ruins. Passersby like the Spartan misthios Kassandra who joined the Spartan invasion around 428 BCE would loot what valuables they could still find left on the former battlefield.[2]
