Not official[edit source]

I noticed this page a while back, and I was always felt awkward and unsure how to address it because this page, as far as I know, was never run by with staff nor approved by administrators. In fact, staff was never even notified of this page's existence, and so this page has never reflected all the outstanding major projects that take serious priority. I am fairly certain that the creator(s) of this page did not have the authority to determine the status of project pages, that "this page serves as a spiritual successor to the old project pages" and that "we no longer have the number of active editors to justify projects".

At the same time, I understand that the low activity and productivity of some of our staff in editing would impel editors here to take initiative to organize their tasks on their own. There's nothing wrong with this. When I became a regular editor in 2016, I spent at least half a year as the only presence on this wiki due to the complete absence of the administration then, so I have been in that position where I felt like I had to carry the wiki myself.

Still, it should be reminded that the guideline to be bold applies to wiki content, not wiki maintenance, formatting, and policy codification. These are still the primary purview of staff, and editors are still expected to consult with staff before taking on these duties. In fact, non-staff are normally prohibited from editing or creating pages with the namespace "Assassin's Creed Wiki". I delayed addressing this page for a long time because I don't believe it was necessarily in error, and it was certainly done with the best intentions for the wiki. Had an administrator been asked, we probably would have approved it right away anyways.

I ruminated for a while if there was a functional purpose to clarifying that staff were never consulted or notified about this page, and I think there is. I think that it's important to get staff on board with this page because well, they are the staff after all and this is an administrative feature. It might be true that we don't have enough active editors to run project pages anymore, but we as a community haven't actually come together to assess that—so the lede in this page is misleading—and I'm not sure if there would be a functional difference between this and a hub for projects. As a result, there is an odd cleavage between major projects staff has assigned and the tasks listed on this target board. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 18:11, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
