"This estate could hold a hundred horses and camels. I never knew dealing with thieves could be so lucrative."

Ali Baba's Estate

The estate of the famed merchant Ali Baba was located in the Karkh district of Baghdad, north of the Monastery of the Virgins. It served as the residence of Ali Baba and his daughter Murjana during the 860s.

History[edit | edit source]

Following Ali Baba's death,[1] his funeral was held at the estate, attended by his relatives and friends, including the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq. Seeking to prevent the secret behind their hideout from being exposed, the Forty Thieves sent a group of men to the estate to find and eliminate Murjana.[2]

Before this operation, the group had one of their spies mark the house in which Murjana lived. After witnessing the spy running away and seeing the mark, Basim made use of paint to mark other house doors and confuse the thieves once they arrived. While the group struggled to identify the correct residence, Basim assassinated them and protected Murjana, who then handed the Hidden One a document found among her father's belongings, revealing the password to the Forty Thieves' hideout.[2]
