Ōtomo Yoshishige (大友 宗麟; 1530 – 1587), also known as Ōtomo Sōrin,[1] was a Japanese daimyō from the island of Kyushu. He was one of the warlords who converted to Christianity following contact with the Jesuits.[2] In 1587,[1] Yoshishige, seeing his clan losing battles to the Shimazu clan, asked Toyotomi Hideyoshi to intervene, leading to Hideyoshi's Kyūshū campaign to bring it under his control alongside the islands of Honshu and Shikoku.[2]
