Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It is bordered to the north by Spain.

History[edit | edit source]

In the early 18th century, Gibraltar's ports were bustling,[1] crowded merchants and sailors from different countries. One of the most sought-after items being high quality wine, which pirate Edward Kenway supplied to the city.[2] He also traded tobacco with the Spanish and rice with the British residing in the region.[1]

During the Seven Years' War, the Colonial Templar Shay Cormac sent spies to the island to aid the British Empire in their occupation, keeping tabs on Spain's plans on their treaty.[3] Seeing Gilbraltar as a great infiltration point for Templar spies in Spain, Portugal, and North Africa, Shay sent additional spies.[4]

During the 19th century, the territory was advertised as holiday destination for people from the United Kingdom wishing to visit the colonies of the British Empire. Gibraltar was advertised as being "at the crossroads of the civilised world and the West".[5]
