The Demiurgi Fort was a fort in Araxos Point in Elis, Greece. Found in the middle of the region, it was home to a large military force. Build to protect Elis City, it was located on top of a hill to provide military personnel with a good view of the sea to locate incoming ships.
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the place, killing the polemarch and captains, burning their war supplies and claiming their valuables.[1] The fort was also wherein a military commander had taken Thespis' fine wine.[2][3]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The name of the fort references the demiurge, originally from the Greek word δημῐουργός (dēmiourgós), which means 'public worker, craftsman, artisan'.
