Sir Isaac Newton (1643 – 1727) was an English mathematician, astronomer, and physicist. He published several scientific breakthroughs, the most famous of which is Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica[1][2] in 1687.[3] However he is also well known for his theories of motion and gravitation.

Warden of the Mint[edit | edit source]
In the early 1690s, Newton worked alongside Nicolas Fatio de Duillier in Cambridge, where they researched on the Philosopher's stone. However, a disagreement and Newton's nervous breakdown caused a rift in the friendship, ending their partnership.[4] In 1696, Newton returned to London to continue his work on the stone. He was appointed as warden of the Royal Mint and gained the acquaintance of the politician William Lowndes.[5]
During his tenure as warden he had many an assistant under his employ, though many left due to Newton's anti-social behavior and expectations. Until he made the acquaintance of the blind Moorish Assassin Omar Khaled, who initially impressed him with his knowledge of chemistry by smell. Although ready to be turned away by his prejudiced servant Finnegan, Newton insisted Khaled stay as a guest from then on. For his first foray as warden with Khaled under him, they went to apprehend the counterfeiter Oliver Augustus together. Tracking him to a warehouse, Newton was able to get a name out of Augustus, Chaloner, though he could not be questioned further as Augustus had rigged the warehouse to explode. Ignoring several warnings from Khaled, Newton was pushed out of the way of the blast by the Assassin as coins rained down around them. Newton, safe and unharmed, moved to attend to Khaled who took the brunt of the blow.[5]
Legacy and influence[edit | edit source]
Newton's theories on gravity were groundbreaking for the 1600s.[6] The Templar Order used and influenced his works to make science and technology flourish in society during the late 17th and early 18th century, so as to further the Order's goals.[7] A photocopied portrait painting of Newton as well as details on how the Templars made use of his works was later collected and compiled within a secret set of dossiers accessible to certain members of the third stage of the Animi Training Program in 2012.[8]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Isaac Newton is a historical figure and character first introduced in the 2011 video game, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, through the Abstergo Files accessible through the multiplayer story. He made his voiced debut in the 2020 audio drama, Assassin's Creed: Gold where he was portrayed by British actor Anthony Head.
