A scepter is a type of staff or baton designed to be borne by sovereigns or other respected leaders, such as priests, as an emblem of their power and authority.

In Egypt during the Ptolemaic dynasty, scepters, being functionally little different from quarterstaves, were adapted as weapons. Although not as lethal as bladed weapons, these scepters were valued for combining swiftness with long reach.
