Ji Wei (died 215 BCE) was the martial arts master of Jade Spring, a village that was situated nearby Yangzhou City during the Qin dynasty.

Biography

In 215 BCE, Fan Zeng asked Ji Wei to prepare a gift for one of the resident youxia, a disciple of Wei Yu, in advance of their 20th birthday. Ji Wei had a poleaxe called the Axe of Valor forged for the disciple, and Fan Zeng made sure to pass the message along to the disciple through their informant Nie Jing to pick up the gift. The day before their birthday, the disciple met Ji Wei just after returning from a mission to steal a treasure from Yangzhou Palace which they had believed, under false intel by Nie Jing, had been taken from a poor farmer by corrupt officials. Ji Wei presented them with the Axe of Valor before challenging them to a sparring match to test it out. Himself wielding a spear and a heavy shield, he instructed them on how to break through shields using the axe. The training session complete, he reminded them to go meet with their fellow disciples, Chu Huan and Yu Ying, both of whom had asked for them after returning to the village earlier.

The following day, Qin soldiers from the Department of Immortality suddenly launched an assault on the village, ruthlessly rounding up its residents to interrogate for the whereabouts of the stolen treasure. All those who resisted or who maintained their ignorance were summarily executed. Ji Wei and the three youxia disciples were the only defenders of the village. While Yu Ying protected the children at her home and Chu Huan the treasure at the great hall, Ji Wei and the disciple he had gifted the Axe of Valor separately engaged the troops swarming the village. Just as the disciple was nearing Ji Wei's position, however, the martial arts master was slain by a Qin soldier, who was then in turn promptly killed by the disciple.

Ji Wei was a heavyset man who favoured a broad-bladed spear and heavy shield in fights. He was respected in his hometown of Jade Spring for his expertise in combat training, instructing the young youxia of the village, and for this reason, he was known as their martial arts master. Despite this, he fell in battle against a Qin soldier from the Department of Immortality after killing two of his comrades.
