Training Grounds

The Training Grounds was the practice grounds where Kamiizumi Nobutsuna trained his students for Lord Oda Nobunaga at Azuchi Castle in Ōmi, Japan.

History[edit | edit source]

In the spring of 1581, Diogo was brought to one of Nobutsuna's student Marume Nagayoshi and instructed by Nobunaga to train under Nobutsuna. Over the course of a month, Diogo trained as a new student of Nobutsuna's shinkage-ryū. Within that time, he mastered the kata of his sensei, who left him alone. While practicing, he met a young boy named Akira, who stated that he wanted to be a samurai like him and his late grandfather Yasuke. Diogo began to ponder the name Akira ran off.[1]

After a duel between Diogo and three of Sanada Masatoyo's students ended with Diogo winning, he gave back his mentor's lost katana before Nobunaga awarded a place as his new samurai and Diogo's new name as "Yasuke." After some time, Yasuke met with his mentor at the grounds again, where Nobutsuna gave him a list of his former students for Yasuke to find. After doing so, Nobutsuna told him that he might become the best of all his students, which led Yasuke to bow before leaving the grounds.[1]
