Forlì – A Crimson Sunset

Forlì – A Crimson Sunset is a premium downloadable expansion that adds a new single-player Campaign Pack to Assassin's Creed: Identity. It was released on 18 May 2016 on iOS, and the Android version of the game that was released on the same day includes the DLC as well. The Forlì Campaign is available for purchase after finishing the main story campaign, Italy – A Murder of Crows.

Plot

The story is set in Forlì after the events of the base game and the Crows' defeat in Rome. When Niccolò Machiavelli receives a letter revealing that several surviving Crows have been spotted in Forlì and are believed to be behind a recent string of murders, he decides to travel to the city, accompanied by Lo Sparviero. Before their departure, the Assassins are also informed by Ezio Auditore of an Apple of Eden he has retrieved recently, and they decide to send it to their ally Caterina Sforza, Countess of Forlì.

In the city, Lo Sparviero escorts Machiavelli to a meeting with one of his spies, which is ambushed by the Crows. Lo Sparviero protects Machiavelli, and later helps him eliminate the Crows once and for all by tailing one of their undercover members to a secret meeting, where he kills everyone in attendance.

When Forlì later comes under attack by Borgia forces seeking the Apple of Eden, a number of Machiavelli's spies are captured. Lo Sparviero rescues them, only to learn that Machiavelli has also been captured and is being held inside a church outside the city. With the help of Ezio, Lo Sparviero storms the church and saves Machiavelli, killing his captors. In the aftermath, Machiavelli remarks that, although the siege of Forlì is not over yet, all the Crows have been seemingly eliminated, and he hopes the Assassins will never see them again.

Development

Before release, the sequence was titled Forlì – Old Mementos. In a promotion that ran from 18–19 June 2016, the DLC could be purchased for 39,000 in-game coins.

Continuity

The events of the DLC occur in the immediate aftermath of the Crows' downfall in Rome, which itself takes place several years after the Siege of Monteriggioni in 1500. However, these memories' accompanying journal entries describe the events as occurring shortly after Ezio and Mario Auditore presented the Apple of Eden to Machiavelli with the idea to send it to Forlì, which canonically occurred in 1488. Reinforcing this inconsistency is the fact the Battle of Forlì happens soon after in the memory sequence, when canonically it also took place in 1488. Interestingly, the dates of the memories are no longer shown in-game.
