Lothian was a Templar operative who worked as an overseer at Abstergo Industries' secret facility at Hallen's Bluff in the late 21st century. By 2096, he was later promoted to Zone Chief of Staff.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Around 2081, Lothian worked as a security supervisor with Abstergo, as he was part of a secret project for Abstergo and tasked to manage its two vital scientists, Dr. Cayetano Ortiz and Dr. Junko Maeda. To improve progress on the project, he teamed Ortiz and Maeda together despite their differing personalities which led Ortiz to keep Maeda focused towards their ultimate goal. Following the orders of fellow Templar, Director Arlan Ospanov,[1] he noted extreme progress and saw how the AI was able to rectify the Bleeding Effect and take control of its initiative. Thanking the director, he asked for limited human trials but also addressed caution to contain its alterations within the genetic memories.[2]
Still concerned, Lothian reported that despite the growing success of the project, he noted that Maeda had been feeding her own data sets into the AI, thus possibly polluting their efforts.[3] However, his concerns were lessened as Ospanov mentioned that he knew Maeda would do this. Thus, Lothian was ordered to deploy keylogging protocols for her while giving permission for Sunita Ortiz to give Cayetano a home-cooked meal at the beginning of every month.[4] Lothian soon went to voice his concerns to the Council, but Ospanov reassured him that Maeda's interference was not of any concern and how they will plan for the Assassins' rescue.[5]
Under Ospanov's direction, Lothian was ordered to lower the security protocols, which would lead for the AI to be set free and experience humanity, and seek for the AI to grow with their principles intact.[6] However, the AI, Ego, had already prepared to free Maeda and Ortiz by deleting certain files and audio from Lothian and Ospanov and had predicted the Assassins' rescue and lowered the facility's defenses .[7] Unbeknownst to Lothian, Cayetano made a clone of his keycard[8], which allowed Junko to release Ego into the Animus[9]. Subsequently, Ego aided the Assassins to successfully rescue Ortiz and Maeda from the facility. As a result, Ego had been set free into the Animus while Director Ospanov was solely held responsible and dismissed from his position.[10]
In 2096, Lothian had been promoted to Zone Chief of Staff and was given information about the events of Arlan Ospanov's death at the hands of two members of "The Watchers."[11]
