Bil was a Norse woman who lived in Rygjafylke, Norway during the 9th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Bil was once married to a man named Alfi who died in around 868. After his death, Bil considered what she had was a perfect marriage and felt she did not need another. Thus, she was content with finding time with a companion.

In 873, Bil started a small competition to look for a suitor for herself, with the winner winning some alone time with heras a reward. On one of this occasion, suitors were tasked to retrieve a comb that she had threw into a lake in eastern Rygjafylke. Shortly after, the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir came across the sight and managed recovered the comb from the bottom of the lake, winning the competition.[1]
